getting in just under the wire... (101 word story)

I really dislike writing drabbles, actually, which is why this is being posted 7 minutes or so after it was initially due. Whoops. /o\

"The Lunchbox"

Carmen's mother took her to school for the first time with nothing but a Beatles lunchbox and worry. “Don't you like it? It's unique.” It was true. Unbeknownst to both of them, the lunchbox was incredibly valuable. The autograph on the front (Ringo's) was authentic.

“I don't wanna,” said Carmen, objecting uselessly. She had never been apart from her mother and had spent the night crying. Not even Ringo's dopey grin could lessen her dread, and not even staring after the bus as it pulled away could make Carmen's mother from feeling heavier than she had ever been in her life.
